Lenherr named 2nd team all-MIAA, 5 others named honorable mention

The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced Monday
that six members of the Washburn baseball squad were named to the
All-MIAA baseball team. Jake Lenherr was named to the second team,
while Nolan Deitrch, Jerad Head, Jesse Schmidt, Sam Sissom and Randy
Wild were honorable mention selections.
Lenherr, a junior pitcher from St. Marys, Kan., went 7-3 with a 3.89
ERA and struck out 75 batters in 83.1 innings of work. He had eight
complete games, including shutouts against Truman State March 28 and
April 7 to earn MIAA Pitcher of the Week twice. He moved into a tie for
seventh by notching his 16th career win against Pittsburg State May 7. He was an honorable mention selection in 2004.
Deitrich, a senior second baseman from Overbrook, Kan., batted .341 with 10 doubles, 26 runs batted in and 38 runs scored. He finished with a .455 on-base percentage. He had 15 multiple hit games, including five
games where he collected three hits.
Head, a junior shortstop from Topeka, Kan., batted .376 with four home
runs, 30 runs batted in and 44 runs. He stole 25 bases and moved into
sixth in all-time steals with 56 in his career. He had 16 multi-hit games, including a pair of four-hit performances. He was a second team
selection in 2004.
Schmidt, a junior first baseman from Topeka, Kan., batted .337 with team-highs of nine home runs and 56 runs batted in. He also scored 39 runs and had a .553 slugging percentage. He had 21 multi-hit games,
including a four-hit performance at Kansas State May 4.
Sissom, a junior outfielder from Kansas City, Mo., batted .324 with 14 doubles and a team-high 53 runs scored. He also led Washburn with 29 stolen bases, which was second in the MIAA and led the MIAA with 47
walks. He tied the MIAA single game record with four walks in back-to-back games against Southwest Baptist April 15 and 16. He moved
into fifth place in career stolen bases at 65 and is seventh in career
runs scored at 132. He was an honorable mention selection in 2004.
Wild, a sophomore designated hitter and pitcher, was named to the team
as a utility player. Wild batted .364 with 11 doubles, four home runs
and 33 runs batted in. He belted grand slams in consecutive days on
April 7 and
8 against Truman State and Missouri-Rolla. He also got the win on the
mound in the game against Missouri Rolla and was named MIAA Hitter of
the Week. Wild went 5-4 on the mound with a team-best 3.14 ERA and
tossed a no-hitter against Minnesota-Crookston March 13. He was an
honorable mention selection at designated hitter in 2004.
