Wild and Lenherr earn MIAA Player of the Week honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Washburn designated hitter/pitcher Randy Wild and pitcher Jake Lenherr earned MIAA Baseball Player of the Week honors Tuesday, which was released by the MIAA.

Both Wild and Lenherr are graduates of St. Marys High School.

HITTER:

Wild, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound sophomore from Maple Hill, Kan., batted .500 (8-of-16) with two home runs, two doubles, 11 RBI and five runs scored in helping the Ichabods go 3-2 last week in conference play.

He was 4-for-5 with a grand slam, a double, five RBI and three runs scored in WU's 21-0, game one win Thursday (April 7) at Truman. He also drew a walk to reach base five times in six trips to the plate.

Wild drilled his second grand slam in as many days to break open a 3-1 game in the fifth inning against Missouri-Rolla, as he also earned the win on the mound in the 12-1 decision.

He allowed one run on five hits with four strtikeouts and two walks in seven innings on the slab for a complete game, and added a fifth RBI with a sixth-inning, run-scoring groundout.

In the doubleheader split against the Miners on Saturday (April 9), Wild was a combined 3-for-5 with a double, three walks and a run scored.

Wild is a graduate of St.Marys (Kan.) High School.

PITCHER:
Jake Lenherr, RHP
Washburn University

Lenherr, a 6-foot-0, 170-pound junior from St. Marys, Kan., tossed a four-hit shutout for a 21-0 victory against Truman on Thursday (April
7) -- his third no-run game of the season and second against the Bulldogs. He also earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors March 22.

He went seven innings, struck out five and walked two in the game. Lenherr retired 10 batters in a row between the two walks.

Two of the four hits he gave up came in the seventh, which gave Truman runners on second and third with one out. Lenherr registered a strikeout and induced an infield pop-up to retain the shutout.

Lenherr is a graduate of St. Marys High School.
