ST. JOSEPH, MO. - The Washburn Ichabods fell 30-14 in their final
road game of the season to the Missouri Western State College Griffons.
The Griffons led from the start taking the opening kickoff and driving
65 yards on eight plays. The Griffons would add another score on a
20 yard touchdown pass to take a 13-0 lead as the extra point attempt
was blocked by Eric Taylor.
Washburn would get on the board on a 31-yard touchdown strike from
Tyler Schuerman to Sam Sissom cappin a 76-yard, 11-play drive. Missouri
Western would score 10 points over a 3:24 period to take a 23-7 lead
into the break at halftime.
The Ichabods then took the opening kickoff of the second half and
drive 60 yards scoring a touchdown on a Chris Brown 1-yard plunge
to cut the lead to 23-14. The Griffons would add the final score on
the game with 1:25 remaining.
Rawshawn Bland led the Ichabod rushing attack with 68 yards. Schuerman
rushed for 58 on 15 carries and Brown had 40 on ten carries with one
touchdown.
Through the air, Schuerman passed for 246 yards on 19 of 34 passing.
Sissom was the main receipient of the passes with a season-high nine
receptions for 89 yards and the one touchdown. Cason Lehman had six
recptions for 86 yards.
The Ichabod defense limited the Griffons to 328 yards, compared to
the 448 yards in total offense for the Ichabods. Leading the way for
the Washburn defense was Grant Gould who had 10 tackles. Morgan Dewey
had nine.
With the loss, the Ichabods fall to 4-6 and 2-6 in the MIAA with
Missouri Southern coming to town next Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
It will be the final home game for 16 Ichabod seniors who will be
honored before the game.
