TOPEKA, Kan. - The Washburn Ichabods were topped by Truman State
12-6 in a battle of field goals. With the loss, the Ichabods fall
to 2-2 and 0-2 in the MIAA.
The Ichabods got on the board first with a 26-yard field goal by
Derek Banion. The field goal snapped a 13-game streak in which the
Ichabods have gone without a field goal. In the second quarter, the
Bulldogs' Mark Kamphoefner kicked a 23-yard field goal with 11:31
remaining and a 24-yard field goal with 3:47 remaining to take a 6-3
lead into the break.
Kamphoefner added a 20-yard field goal after a 14-play, 66-yard drive
and he would add a 36-yard field goal at the 6:25 mark of the fourth
quarter.
The Ichabods would drive 33 yards on eight plays with Banion's 31-yard
field goal.
The Bulldogs' Jerard Leverson carried the bal 48 times for 204 yards.
Tyler Schuerman led the Ichabods on the ground with seven carries
for 48 yards. He also was 6 of 9 for 76 yards with one interception.
Mike Odupitan had three receptions for 42 yards and a kickoff return
for 47 yards.
Defensively, Grant Gould led the Ichabods with 15 tackles along with
a forced fumble and Joe Corcoran had 13.
The Ichabods are back in action next Saturday as they travel to Northwest
Missouri to take on the Bearcats.
