TOPEKA - The Washburn Ichabods fell for the first time this season in MIAA play as they were knocked off by No. 5 Northwest Missouri 49-21. The Ichabods will now travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to take on No. 3 ranked Pittsburg State.
The Ichabods fell behind 14-0 as the Bearcats scored on their first two drives. Defensive lineman Mitch Birt scored the first points for the Ichabods as he sacked Northwest quarterback Josh Lamberson and then recovered the fumble in the endzone for the touchdown.
Northwest responded by scoring 28 unanswered points to take a 42-7 lead. The Ichabods scored as time expired in the first half on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Brill to Mike Odupitan.
Both teams scored seven points in the second half as the Bearcats scored on their first drive to open the half. The Ichabods scored on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Brill to Jarod Tetuan with 10:15 left in the game to make the score Northwest 49, Washburn 21.
Brill finished the game16 of 31 for 205 yards and two touchdown passes. Ra'Shawn Moseley had 44 yards on 13 carries.
Odupitan had six receptions along with Sam Sissom. Odupitan had 96 yards receiving and one touchdown, Sissom had 72 yards receiving.
Linebacker Mike Gonzalez had nine tackles to pace the Ichabod defense. Evin Beck had two sacks.
The Bearcats ammasssed 491 yards of offense while they held the Ichabods to 321.
