WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods fell 47-21 to Central Missouri State at Walton Stadium Saturday afternoon. Sam Sissom caught two touchdowns from Tyler Schuerman to lead the WU offense. Sissom has 12 touchdown receptions for the season. Washburn, which fell to 5-4 and is in a tie for third in the MIAA at 4-3, is back home 1 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day and Homecoming against Missouri Western.
The Washburn Ichabod offense struggled in the first half collecting on seven first downs and gaining 100 total yards, with 61 of the yards coming on the ground. The Mules by the halfway point had rushed for 240 yards and gained 352 yards.
After the Mules had jumped out to a 30-0 lead, the Ichabods scored on an 80-yard drive in seven plays using 3:26 off the clock to cut the lead to 30-7, however CMSU would kick a field goal before the break to take a 33-7 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Mules would score on their first two posessions of the second half to push the lead to 47-7.
The Ichabods' Sissom caught his second touchdown pass of the afternoon late in the third quarter. The Ichabods' Mike Odupitan had the only score in the fourth quarter, a 35-yard touchdown reception from Jordan Brill, that capped a 88-yard drive and ended the scoring for both teams with Central ahead 47-21.
Sissom finished with four receptions for 59 yards and two touchdowns. It was Sissom's 11th and 12th touchdown receptions of the season and his 29th and 30th of his career. Sissom also became only the fourth Ichabod receiver to go over 2,000 yards for a career, he now has 2,001.
Ra'Shawn Mosley led the Ichabods with 76 yards rushing, raising his season total to 716 yards. Schuerman passed for two touchdowns and Brill was 4-of-6 passing for one touchdown and 71 yards through the air.
The Ichabod defense was led by Evin Beck who had 12 tackles, Blake Meyer and Grant Gould each recorded 11. Gould's season total tackle was raised to 95. Fletcher Terrell had his fourth interception of the season.
In the game, the Ichabods gained 354 yards of total offense compared to 556 for the Mules.
