OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Washburn Ichabods were picked fourth in the 2005 MIAA Coaches Poll that was released this afternoon at the MIAA Football Media Day in Kansas City, Mo. at Arrowhead Stadium. The fourth place designation was the highest in school history for the Ichabods in the preseason coaches poll.

The Ichabods finished the 2004 season with a school-record tying eight wins as they finished the season 8-4 and were the 2004 Mineral Water Bowl Champions after their best ever finish in the MIAA race. The Ichabods finished the MIAA slate 6-3, placing them in third in the league race.

The Ichabods return seven offesnive starters on both sides of the ball and they open the season on Aug. 27 against Colorado School of Mines at 2 p.m. CST in Golden, Colo. The Orediggers topped the Ichabods 34-27 in the 2004 season opener.

Pittsburg State was tabbed as the coaches pick to win the MIAA with 63 total points and seven first-place votes. They were followed by Northwest Missouri, who was the only other school to receive any first place votes.

Points were awarded on a 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis and coaches could not vote for their own school.
