OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Washburn football team swept all three MIAA Player of the Week honors, while the volleyball squad had the MIAA Specialist of the Week with freshman setter Carolyn Raynes announced by the MIAA Monday. Raynes led WU to a 4-0 record in the Henderson State Invitational.
Washburn quarterback Jordan Brill was Offensive Player of the Week, defensive tackle Trey Lewis was Defensive Player of the Week and Connor Sabel was Special Teams Player of the Week for the Ichabod football team, which knocked off No. 5 Northwest Missouri State 31-28 in Maryville Saturday.

Brill, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound sophomore from Elkhorn, Neb., was 21-of-31 passing for 261 yards and one touchdown as the then-No. 25 Ichabods knocked off then-No. 5 Northwest Missouri State, 31-28, Saturday afternoon (Oct. 8).
On the the drive which set up the game-winning field goal, he was 5-of-6 (not counting an intentional spike to stop the clock) for 82 yards -- connecting with four different receivers in the process.
In the fourth quarter alone, Brill was 10-of-11 for 151 yards, including his only touchdown pass to senior WR Mike Odupitan which tied the game at 21 21.
Brill is a graduate of Elkhorn High School.

Lewis, a 6-foot-3, 276-pound junior from Topeka, Kan., made four of his six tackles behind the line of scrimmage, totaling 30 yards of lost yardage in the Ichabods' 31-28 win at Northwest Missouri State Saturday (Oct. 8).
He had five solo stops on the day, and three of his four tackles behind the line of scrimmage were quarterback sacks, which accounted for 28 yards lost by the Bearcats. It was the most sacks by a WU player since Aaron Doonan had three in 1998 vs. Pittsburg State, and helped the Ichabods snap a 10-game losing skid to Northwest.
Lewis is a graduate of Washburn Rural High School.

Sabel, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior from Topeka, Kan., set a school record and hit the game-winning field goal in Washburn's 31-28 win at Northwest Missouri State Saturday (Oct. 8).
He was a perfect 4-of-4 on point-after kicks to extend his streak to 37 in a row. Sabel's total of 104 PATs for his career surpasses the 102 by Chad Todd (1997-2000) for the WU all-time record.
With four seconds left, Sabel knocked through a 23-yard field goal which snapped the tie and gave WU its second win in as many weeks over a nationally-ranked opponent.
He is a graduate of Hayden High School.

Carolyn Raynes, S
Washburn University
Raynes, a 5-foot-8 freshman from Lawrence, Kan., averaged 13.40 assists, 1.47 kills and 0.87 blocks while hitting .292 (22 kills, 8 errors, 48 attempts) as the No. 10 Lady Blues went 4-0 at the Henderson (Ark.) State/Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) Classic last weekend.
Sh e had a career-high 60 assists (15.00 per game) and added eight digs, six kills and an ace as Washburn knocked off Central Arkansas in four games Saturday (Oct. 8). Earlier in the day, she had 48 assists (16.00 per game) with six kills and three blocks (one solo) in a sweep of Christian Brothers (Tenn.).
The first day in Arkansas, Raynes had 10 points (5 kills, 1 ace, 3 block solos, 2 block assists) and 45 assists (11.3 per game) to go with six digs in a 3-1 win over West Georgia. She had 48 assists (12.0 per game) with five kills and three blocks (one solo) in the first match of the day, a 3-1 win over Alabama-Huntsville.
Raynes is a graduate of Lawrence High School.
