Ichabods picked third in MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll
July 31 , 2006

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The defending MIAA Champion Washburn Ichabods were tabbed as the No. 3 team in the MIAA Preseason Coaces Poll that was released Monday at the MIAA Football Media Luncheon at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium.
The Ichabods received one first place vote, to finish with 63 points behind NCAA runner-up Northwest Missouri, who received five first place votes and 75 points. Pittsburg State received a first place vote,
tallying 68 points.
In 2005, the Ichabods became the first team other than Northwest Missouri or Pittsburg State to win an outright MIAA Championship since Missouri Southern accomplished the feat in 1993 finishing the season with a 9-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the MIAA with the lone conference loss a 28-21 overtime setback at Missouri Western to end the regular season.
The third place ranking is the highest for the Ichabods since joining the MIAA topping last season's fourth place preseason poll prediction by the league's coaches.
Washburn opens the season on Sept. 2 at home against Colorado Mines at 1 p.m. in Yager Stadium.
