Turnovers plague Ichabods in 28-17 loss

Six Washburn Ichabod turnovers leading to 21 points for the Central Missouri State Mules was the story of the game.

The Ichabods (3-2, 1-2) dominated the every phase of the contest in Warrensburg, Mo. The Ichabods piled up 22 first downs, compared to 15 for the Mules, 295 yards rushing compared to 136 for CMSU, and 409 yards in total offense compared to 237 for CMSU however, the Ichabods turned the ball over on three of their first six drives in the first half and had another fumble that was recovered by themselves.

The Mules got on the board first with a 6-yd run. The Ichabods came back putting together a nine-play, 70-yd drive capped by a Tyler Schuerman 33-yd touchdown run. The Ichabods took the lead midway through the third quarter on a Chad Todd 40-yd field goal, his 35th of his WU career, topping Nick Kresic's mark of 34.

The Mules would then score 21-unanswered points to go up 28-10. The Bods would score again on another 70-yd drive finished off by Darryl Humphrey's 3-yd touchdown run.

Schuerman led the Bods with 97 yards rushing and we was 12-21 for 128 yards and three interceptions. Brandon Rainer carred the ball 16 times for 76 yards before leaving in the third quarter with an injury. Colon McNeal had four catches for 42 yards. Corey Phipps led the defense with 10 tackles.

The Ichabods will look to snap a two-game slid against Missouri-Rolla in Rolla on Oct. 7. The Ichabods will be at home on Oct. 14 with a 2 p.m. Homecoming kickoff against Southwest Baptist.
