The Washburn Ichabods welcomed football back to Lincoln University after a 11-year absence with a 63-21 thrashing in Jefferson City, Mo.

The Ichabods' 63 points was the highest total since they rolled up a 61-0 win over McPherson College in 1995.

Junior fullback Brandon Rainer led the Ichabod attack with 105 yards rushing on 16 attempts, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Rainer also lit the scoreboard with three touchdowns. It was Rainers' first game with more than 100 yards rushing, topping his previous high of 98 against Northwest Missouri State University his freshman season. Freshman quarterback Tyler Schuerman ran for 83 yards on 12 carries. Schuerman also ran for four touchdowns and completed four passes on nine attempts for 50 yards. Sophomore halfback Corey Crain had two receptions for 24 yards.

After leading at halftime 28-14, the Ichabods scored touchdowns on five-of-its six possessions in the second half, with the one drive that did not hit paydirt was at the end of the game when the Ichabods kneeled to run out the clock.

Senior placekicker Chad Todd tied an MIAA record with nine extra points in a game. The nine point after kicks made has been done, the Ichabods were on the opposite side of the ball when Josh Barcus from Pitt State kicked nine on Nov. 6, 1998 against the Ichabods.

The Ichabods totaled 417 total offensive yards and recorded five sacks for 29 yards. The Ichabods also had 15 different people record a tackle for loss. Junior safety Jeremy Potts recorded a team high six tackles and three pass breakups.

The Ichabods will now move into MIAA play starting next week against Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, Mo. with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Ichabods beat the Lions last season in Moore Bowl 35-28.
