The Washburn Ichabods welcomed football back to Lincoln University
after a 11-year absence with a 63-21 thrashing in Jefferson City,
Mo.
The Ichabods' 63 points was the highest total since they rolled up
a 61-0 win over McPherson College in 1995.
Junior fullback Brandon Rainer led the Ichabod attack with 105 yards
rushing on 16 attempts, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Rainer also
lit the scoreboard with three touchdowns. It was Rainers' first game
with more than 100 yards rushing, topping his previous high of 98
against Northwest Missouri State University his freshman season. Freshman
quarterback Tyler Schuerman ran for 83 yards on 12 carries. Schuerman
also ran for four touchdowns and completed four passes on nine attempts
for 50 yards. Sophomore halfback Corey Crain had two receptions for
24 yards.
After leading at halftime 28-14, the Ichabods scored touchdowns on
five-of-its six possessions in the second half, with the one drive
that did not hit paydirt was at the end of the game when the Ichabods
kneeled to run out the clock.
Senior placekicker Chad Todd tied an MIAA record with nine extra
points in a game. The nine point after kicks made has been done, the
Ichabods were on the opposite side of the ball when Josh Barcus from
Pitt State kicked nine on Nov. 6, 1998 against the Ichabods.
The Ichabods totaled 417 total offensive yards and recorded five
sacks for 29 yards. The Ichabods also had 15 different people record
a tackle for loss. Junior safety Jeremy Potts recorded a team high
six tackles and three pass breakups.
The Ichabods will now move into MIAA play starting next week against
Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, Mo. with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Ichabods beat the Lions last season in Moore Bowl 35-28.
