Ichabods reel of 34 unanswered points to breeze to win

Rolla, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods improved to 4-2 and 2-2 in the MIAA with a 34-14 win over the University of Missouri-Rolla Miners.

The Miners jumped out to a 14-0 lead over the Ichabods on a pair of long touchdown runs. UMR's Ken Okwuonu took the Miners' first play from scimmage for 58 yards for a score. Midway through the second quarter, Darron Boyer and the MIners' took a play out of the 'Bods playbook on an end-around for 67 yards.

Then it was the Ichabods' turn to reel off 34 straight points.

The Ichabods took the ensuing kickoff and put together a five-play 50-yd drive capped by a Reggie Jones 14-yd touchdown run.

After the Washburn defense forced a three-and-out for the Miners, the Ichabods took the next possession for a touchdown - a 41-yd touchdown strike from Tyler Schuerman to Colon McNeal tying the score at 14 at the half.

Coming out after the break, the Washburn defense forced another Miner punt. Washburn would take the ball 48 yards on six plays capped by a Schuerman 9-yd touchdown run to put the 'Bods up for good.

Schuerman would score two more touchdowns on a pair of 2-yd runs to put the Ichabods up 34-14. Schuerman's rushing touchdown total is eight, tying him for the Washburn record for most rushing TDs by a freshman with junior Brandon Rainer.

On the afternoon, Jones had a career high 120 yards on 20 carries. Joshua Johnson had 35 yards on six carries. Schuerman was 16 of 21 passing for a new career mark of 245 yards and one touchdown. McNeal had six receptions for 108 yards and one touchdown. Joe Banks had four receptions for 60 yards and Joe Camp had 42 yards and four receptions. Corey Phipps had nine tackles including eight solo tackles, including one for loss. Eric Taylor and Josh Frederick each had one sack for 12 yards.

The Ichabods racked up 480 yards total offense compared to 288 for the Miners including a 261 to 99 advantage in the air.

The Ichabods will be in action again against Southwest Baptist for homecoming Oct. 14 with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
