TOPEKA - The Central Missouri State Mules scored 31 straight points
in the second half and turned a close game at the break into a 58-34
win.
The Ichabods would get on the board early after their opening kickoff
was fumbled by the Mules' Kevin Nickerson. Washburn would then run
go 30 yards in five plays capped by a Tyler Schuerman scamper. All
30 yards on the ground were gained by Schuerman. The Ichabods would
then capitalize on another Mule turnover and convert it into a 7 yard
touchdown run by Brandon Rainer.
The Mules would come back and tie the score on a pair of Todd Devoe
touchdown receptions from Dennis Gile of 53 and 19 yards respectively.
Gile would pass for 380 yards completing 24 of 33 passes with two
interceptions and five touchdowns. Kegan Coleman would score another
TD for CMSU putting the Mules in front.
The Ichabods would tie the score on another Rainer TD run. The Mules
would answer with another touchdown. Entering the game for the injured
Schuerman, Hickel would score on a 68 yard touchdown run near the
end of the first half. The PAT was blocked. The Ichabods would take
the lead at 34-27 on another Hickel score, but the Mules would explode
for 31 points to put the game out of reach.
Hickel would lead the Ichabods in rushing with 130 yards on 21 carries,
he also passed for 105 yards. Chris Whittle had two receptions for
60 yards to pace the Ichabods. Larry Schembri had 11 tackles to lead
the Ichabods. It is the fifth time in seven games that Schembri has
led the team in tackles this season.
Schuerman's injury to the opposite knee that was injured in the season
opener against Wisconsin-LaCrosse will be looked at by team doctors.
His status for next week's game against Missouri Western in unknown
at this time (midnight - Friday morning).
The Ichabods will take on the Griffons next Saturday at 1 p.m. in
St. Joseph, Mo. The game will be carried on the home of Ichabod and
Lady Blues athletics - 99.3 FM with Ron Simon and Steve Walter calling
all the action. The pregame show starts at 12:40 p.m.
