Washburn Athletic Director Loren Ferré has announced that head football coach Tony DeMeo has resigned to pursue other opportunities.

DeMeo, who finished his eighth season as the Ichabods’ head coach, recorded an overall record of 31-54, including a 23-49 mark in the MIAA. This season the Ichabods were 3-8 overall and 2-7 in the MIAA.

“The program is in better shape now than it was eight years ago before Tony arrived,” Ferré said. “I have enjoyed working with him and wish him nothing but the best in the future. We look to build on the foundation that has been established.”

Under DeMeo, the Ichabods best finish was fifth place tie in 1999 when Washburn finished 4-5 in MIAA play and recorded a 6-5 overall record - the team’s first winning season since 1988.

“We will start a national search immediately,” Ferré said. “With recruiting going on right now, it is important for the student athletes we are recruiting and our current players to have the most qualified coach in place as soon as possible.”
