Washburn head football coach Craig Schurig has announced the Ichabods
have signed four student-athletes to National Letter of Intents. All
four will join the Ichabods this semester.
Brooks Myers - 6-0, 195, FS, Topeka, Kan. - Brooks is joining the
Ichabods after two seasons at Coffeyville Community College. As a
member of the Red Ravens, he finished third on the team in tackles
with 77. He was 15th in the Jayhawk Conference in tackles. He was
twice named Defensive Player of the Game after tallying 16 against
Butler County and 14 against Garden City. In high school at Washburn
Rural, Myers was a three-year starter for the Junior Blues leading
the team in tackles his junior and senior seasons. He was an all-conference
selection his season season.
Jake Lawrence - 6-0, 215, LB/FS, Lawrence, Kan. - Jake spent two
seasons at Butler County Community College. After playing his freshman
season on offense, Lawrence moved to defense and finished third in
tackles with 66, including six sacks. He was second on the Grizzlies
with 10 tackles for loss for 16 yards. He also recovered two fumbles,
one of those lead to a 23-yard fumble recovery touchdown against Hutchinson
Community College.
At Free State High School, Lawrence rushed for 821 yards as a junior
and 1,267 yards as a senior catching 14 passes for 195 yards. He also
scored 20 touchdowns his senior season. He was an all-state 6A running
back, all-Sunflower League selection taking part in the the Missouri-Kansas
Metro Bowl and the Kansas Shrine game.
Morgan Dewey - 5-10, 210, LB, Topeka, Kan.- Morgan was a two-year
starter at Fort Scott Community College where he wrapped up Honorable
Mention all-Jayhawk Conference honors after leading the team in tackles
with 88 total, including 29 solo stops. His tackle total was seventh
in the Jayhawk Conference. He finished tied for fifth in tackles for
loss with 15.
At Topeka West High School, Dewey was an all-I70 league linebacker.
John McKinley - 6-0, 295, OL, Axtell, Kan. - John was a two-year
starter at offensive guard at Coffeyville Community College where
he was an Honorable Mention all-Jayhawk selection as a sophomore.
At Axtell High School, McKinley was an all-conference selection three
seasons.
