The Washburn Ichabods football team season opener started just as they wanted it to - a five play, 44 yard drive leading to its first score. After forcing the Eagles to go three and out on its first possession the Ichabods marched the pigskin down the field with Reggie Jones capping the drive with a five-yard run. After forcing another Eagle three and out, the Ichabods took possession and sophomore signal caller Tyler Schuerman was forced out of the game after being sacked in the sixth play of the game with a knee injury. Hickel, seeing his first game action in an Ichabod uniform finished the game 16 for 35 for 195 yards passing. He also rushed for 49 yards and one touchdown.
