Two Washburn seniors were placed on the All-MIAA Second Team by the
conferences coaches at league meetings yesterday. Wide receiver
Colon McNeal and offensive lineman Anders Grove were the only Ichabods
named to the Second Team on either side of the ball.
McNeal finished fourth on the all-time reception chart with 113 catches
and fifth on the receiving chart with 1,808 yards. He led this seasons
squad with 732 yards receiving with 43 catches and eight touchdowns.
McNeal also led the team with 1,080 all-purpose yards averaging 98.2
yards per game. McNeal was an honorable mention selection kick returner
as a freshman and an honorable mention wide receiver following his
sophomore and junior campaigns.
Grove anchored the offensive line at right guard for three seasons
as a starter. As part of the offensive line, he helped it reduce its
sack total from 55 to 13 in each of the last two season. He also helped
the Ichabods set a new school record for total offense as a junior.
The Ichabods had four players named to the honorable mention offense
and two named to the honorable mention defense.
Sophomore quarterback Tyler Schuerman, senior fullback Brandon Rainer,
Senior wide receiver Chris Whittle and sophomore offensive lineman
Tim Watts were placed on the honorable mention squad. Sophomore defensive
lineman Michael Kitchener and redshirt freshman linebacker Larry Schembri
were named to the defensive honorable mention team.
The Ichabods finished the season 3-8 and 2-7 in the MIAA.
