The Washburn Ichabods snapped a five-game losing streak as they pounded
Missouri-Rolla 42-14. The Ichabods opened a 21-0 lead and kept Missouri-Rolla
scoreless until the 3:40 mark in the second quarter.
The Ichabods (3-7, 2-6 MIAA) got things going with a 23-yard touchdown
run by quarterback Tyler Schuerman. It was the first of two scoring
runs Schuerman would have on the day.
Brandon Rainer scored on a 14-yard plunge late in the first quarter
and he would add another score in the fourth quarter on a three-yard
run.
In the second half, the Ichabods would score 21 unanswered points
starting with a 26-yard touchdown reception by Colon McNeal from Schuerman.
Dustin Hickel would get into the act on a 4-yard run in the fourth
quarter.
The Ichabods racked up 436 yards of total offense and held the Miners
(2-8, 0-8 MIAA) to 194 yards. Rainer and Schuerman each recorded 58
yards ruhsing and two touchdowns. Schuerman passed for 97 yards and
one touchdown. Darryl Humphrey recorded two catches for 46 yards and
McNeal finished with 41 yards receiving and one touchdown.
On defense, the Ichabods' Darrold Smith recorded 10 tackles. The
Ichabods also had 14 tackels for loss for 71 yards.
The Ichabods will wrap up the season next week against Southwest
Baptist with a 1 p.m. starting time in Moore Bowl. It will be the
final home game for 11 Washburn seniors.
