Ichabod head football coach Craig Schurig has announced eight more National Letter of Intent signings who will join the Ichabods this fall.

“With this group we added size and really strengthened our initial signings on the offensive and defensive lines,” Schurig said. “We are excited with the players we have signed and we will continue to look for student athletes who will help our team succeed.”

The Ichabods open the 2002 season in Moore Bowl against the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.

Chris McCann, 5-9, 180, FB, Liberal, Kan./Liberal High School
Chris was selected to the 2002 Kansas Shrine Bowl game. As a senior, he rushed for 1,456 yards on 205 carries averaging 7.1 yards per carry and 24 touchdowns. He was a Kansas Football Coaches Association and Topeka Capital-Journal 5A all-State selection as well as an all-conference choice. The Capital-Journal also named McCann to its third team all-class all-state team.
His anticipated major at Washburn is Criminal Justice.

Pat Mack, 6-5, 220, OC, Omaha, Neb./Millard North High School
Pat was a two-time letterwinner at Millard North High School as his team finished 11-1 and won the district championship. He was received first team all-district, second team all-metro and a super all-State honorable mention selection.

Justin Thompson, 6-4, 265, OL, Raytown, Mo./Raytown High School
Justin was a two-time honorable mention all-conference selection on the defensive line and was named to the second team all-conference squad on the offensive line as the team captain as a senior. He is also the captain of Raytown’s track and wrestling team.
He cousin Derrick Pierce played football for Washburn graduating in 1993. His anticipated major at Washburn is Criminal Justice.

Steve Toth, 5-11, 170, WR/DB, Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill South High School
Following his senior season, Toth was named honorable mention all-conference at defensive back leading the team in tackles. He also led the team in tackles as a junior receiving honorable mention accolades again.

Jerell Pfannenstiel, 6-0, 185, QB, Garden City, Kan./Garden City High School
Jerell was a three-year starter at quarterback at Garden City High School, but will move to wide receiver for the Ichabods. He was a two-year all conference selection and quarterbacked Garden City to the 1999 state championship. Also played guard on Garden City’s conference championship basketball team last season.

Jeffrey Pulliam, 6-1, 265, OL, Moreno Valley, Calif./Rancho Verde High School
Jeffrey was a two-year first team all-Sunbelt League selection and first team all-county following his senior season. He was a first team all Division V Southern choice and he was named the his high school’s lineman of the year all four seasons. He also participated in the Inland Empire Classic all-star game.

Brett Sharp, 6-1, 185, QB/TE/LB, Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill South High School
Brett was named second team all-conference at quarterback and honorable mention at tight end. He was also team captain as a senior year. His anticipated major at Washburn is psychology.

Cory Tinklin, 6-5, 235, OL/DL, Sabetha, Kan./Sabetha High School
Cory received 2001 Big 7 League all-conference honors on offense and defense and was a first team all-4A State selection on the offensive line. He will also participate in the 2002 Kansas Shrine Bowl Game. As a junior he received honorable mention all-conference honors on defense. An accomplished wrestler as well, he finished fifth at the state wrestling tournament following his senior season and qualified for state as a junior.
