TOPEKA - The Washburn Ichabods fell 48-13 to the No. 6 ranked Northwest
Missouri State Bearcats in Moore Bowl. The loss dropped the Ichabods
to 0-5 and 0-3 in the conference and the Bearcats improved to 5-0
and 3-0 in the MIAA.
The Bearcats jumped on the scoreboard first on a 13-yard touchdown
pass from John McMenamin to Mark Stewart. The Bearcats would add another
score on their next possession to make the score 13-0. The Ichabods'
Jim Holland blocked the extra point attempt and Corey Crain recovered
it, raced to the Bearcat 7 yard line but was tackled from behind.
The Ichabods would light the scoreboard on a 23-yard touchdown pass
from Dustin Hickel to Mike Odupitan capping a four-play,80-yard drive
to cut the lead to 13-6 as the 'Bods' extra point attempt was block
and returned for a Bearcat 2-point conversion, but a personal foul
by Northwest erased the conversion.
The Bearcats would score the nex three touchdowns to take a 34-6
lead before Hickel would scamper for a 16-yard touchdown run to make
the score 34-13. The Bearcats would score add two more touchdowns
to finish the game.
Hickel finished the night 11 for 20 with 193 yards passing and one
touchdown and Samm Sissom had three receptions for 101 yards. Joe
Corcoran had 19 tackles for the Ichabods, 10 of those stops were solo
tackles, including two for loss. Morgan Dewey had 12 tackles, four
of which were solo.
The Ichabods will now travel to Kirksville, Mo. to take on Truman
State for the Bulldogs' homecoming. Game time is set for 2 p.m.on
