Ichabods fall to Emporia; record first winning season since 1988

The Ichabods fell to Emporia State in the Turnpike Series 45-20 to finish the season 6-5, 4-5 MIAA, the first winning season since 1988.

The Ichabods were held scoreless in the first half, not scoring until the 6:50 mark of the third quarter on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Barry Galbraith to Marc Nardella. The same combination of Galbraith to Nardella would work again with 14:51 in the fourth quarter. The duo connected on a 59-yard touchdown pass. The Ichabods would close out the scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run by Brandon Rainer with 29 seconds left in the game. Nardella would score the two-point conversion on a pass from Galbraith.

The story on the afternoon was the Hornets' Lester McCoy. McCoy would set the MIAA record and ESU record for touchdown receptions in a season with 16. He recorded three agaisnt Washburn. Total, McCoy would have nine receptions for 191 yards.

Eight seniors closed out their Washburn careers against Emporia State. Barry Galbraith broke the single season total offensive plays record with 469. The previous record was 408 held by Mike Atkins. He also broke the single season total offense record fof 2,532 yards. The previous record was 2,338 yards held by Barry Griffiths. Galbraith will also leave Washburn with the second highest total in single season passing with 2,269 and sixth in career passing with 2,532 yards.

Nardella will leave Washburn recording the third highest reception total for a career with 120 and third in career yards with 2,080. He also recorded the fifth highest total of receiving yards in a season with 933 and the fourth highest reception total for a season in school history with 55.
