win season opener on the road
The Washburn Ichabod football team knocked off the Fort
Hays State Tigers 17-14 in their home opener Sept. 11 to reach a 2-0
mark for the first time since 1988.
Leading 17-14 late in the ballgame, the Ichabods defense
held and forced the Tigers to attempt a 37-yard field goal by Weston
Simoneau that sailed wide left to give the Ichabods the victory.
Washburn outgained the Tigers with 347 total yards to
220, rolling up a balanced attack with 178 passing yards and 169 rushing.
Halfback Cody Snyder scored two touchdowns for the Ichabods
in the first half and led the rushing attack with 82 yards on eight
carries.
The Ichabods will be at home again next Saturday (Sept.
18) for their MIAA opener against Missouri Southern.
