Ichabods win season opener on the road

The Washburn Ichabod football team knocked off the Fort Hays State Tigers 17-14 in their home opener Sept. 11 to reach a 2-0 mark for the first time since 1988.

Leading 17-14 late in the ballgame, the Ichabods defense held and forced the Tigers to attempt a 37-yard field goal by Weston Simoneau that sailed wide left to give the Ichabods the victory.

Washburn outgained the Tigers with 347 total yards to 220, rolling up a balanced attack with 178 passing yards and 169 rushing.

Halfback Cody Snyder scored two touchdowns for the Ichabods in the first half and led the rushing attack with 82 yards on eight carries.

The Ichabods will be at home again next Saturday (Sept. 18) for their MIAA opener against Missouri Southern.
