Washburn fell Saturday to the No. 5 ranked Northwest Missouri State
Bearcats 35-10. The Ichabods had possession of the football for nearly
ten minutes more and ran 16 more plays but still came up short.
Northwest got on the board first on a 18-yard touchdown run by David
Jansen. Jansen ran for 108 yards on the afternoon.
Chad Todd kicked a 32-yard field goal to put the Ichabods in the
scoring column with 10:57 left in the second quarter.
Washburn would be held scoreless until Brandon Rainer capped a nine-play,
90-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown scamper.
Rainer led the Ichabods on the ground with 85 yards on 17 carries
including the lone score for the 'Bods. Rainer averaged five yards
a carry for Washburn. Barry Galbraith was 18 of 30 with two interceptions
for 236 yards. Cody Snyder rushed for 41 yards on seven carries. He
also had six receptions for 77 yards.
Defensively, Cory Phipps led with 10 tackles (5 solo) and Will Bulter
recorded eight (6 solo).
Marc Nardella had three receptions for 67 yards and moved into a
tie for third place in Washburn history with Troy Slusser with 107
receptions.
The Ichabods will try again to nail down its first winning season
since 1988 as they take on Truman State on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Moore
Bowl at 1:30 p.m. It will be the final home appearance for eight Washburn
seniors.
