Ichabods nail down first winning season since 1988 with 52-18 win over Truman State

The Washburn Ichabods clinched their first winning season since 1988 with a convincing 52-18 victory over the Truman State Bulldogs at Moore Bowl.

Leading 24-12 in the third quarter, the Ichabods scored four straight touchdowns in the last four minutes of the quarter.

Washburn used a combination of big plays on both sides of the ball to secure the victory.

On offense, the Ichabods rolled up 603 yards of total offense, including 342 yards passing by Barry Galbraith. Galbraith completed 15 of 22 passes, including three passes of 50 yards or better. The first was a 65-yard completion to Marc Nardella, who also caught a 63-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Nardella finished with four catches for 163 yards. Joe Banks also caught a 50-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Cody Snyder ran nine times for 66 yards, while catching five passes for 84 yards.

On defense, linebacker Corey Phipps led the charge again. Phipps had nine tackles, including two for loss and one sack. Linebacker Ryan Huske had an interception, while cornerback Kris Stewart took a third quarter pickoff 12 yards for a touchdown.

With the victory, Washburn improved to 6-4 (4-4 MIAA) on the season heading into next weeks clash with arch-rival Emporia State 1 p.m. at Emporia State's Welch Stadium.
