JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods tightened their grasp on first place in the MIAA golf standings with their fourth straight conference meet win with a six-shot victory at Loma Linda Country Club in Joplin, Mo. With the win, the Ichabods lead the MIAA standings with 32 points, while being trailed by Central Missouri with 25 and Missouri Southern with 23.

The Ichabods trailed host school Missouri Southern by four strokes entering the second round, but they lowered their score by eight strokes from the first round highlighted by Matt Ewald's 4-under 67 en route to the individual championship. His 67 he carded Tuesday afternoon was the low round of the two-day event. John Robbins tied for eighth with a 9-over 151 and was joined by Sam Wempe who played as an individual. Daniel Hersch, finished in a tie for 13th while playing as an individual as well. Taylor Dunham rebounded from his first round 80 to record a 2-over 73 for a 16th place tie. Matt Lazzo finished in a tie for 18th with a 13-over 155 and Ryan Deutsch finished in a tie for 29th with a 17-over 159.

The Ichabods will be back in action next weekend at the Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif. The MIAA Championship, in which points are doubled, will be April 23-24 at the Branson Creek Golf Club outside of Branson, Mo. The Ichabods finished fourth place at the same course earlier this season at Drury's Battle at the Creek behind Central Missouri by eight shots.
