Washburn golf coach Doug Hamilton unveiled the 2006 Ichabod Golf schedule today which is what the head coach calls the hardest one in school history.
"Undoubtedly, it is the most aggressive schedule this golf program has ever put together," Hamilton said.
The Ichabods will travel to both the east and west coast, with a stop along the way in Alabama, to compete in premier Division II tournaments. Along with trying to win a fourth straight crown in a highly competitive conference the Ichabods will face almost every team that is nationally ranked in the top 20 by Golfstat.
"We want to put ourselves to the test. You never really know how good you are until you throw your hat in the ring with the top programs in the country," said the three-time MIAA and Central Region coach of the year.
The Ichabods are quickly becoming recognized as one of those programs, having made three consecutive trips to the D-II National Tournament by winning the Central Regional title each of the last three years. The Ichabods finished with a school best 10th place at the national tournament last year.
During the fall season the Ichabods captured two team titles and moved up to a highest ever #10 national ranking on the Golfstat Poll. The schedule is highlighted by the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by Barry University in Miami, The North Alabama Golf Classic in Muscle Shoals, AL and the Buzzini Invitational hosted by Cal State Stanislaus, Turlock, CA.
