Washburn tied for sixth at NCAAs after three rounds

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Washburn golf team moved into a tie for sixth place after three rounds of the NCAA Division II National Golf Tournament at The Club at Savannah Harbor. The Ichabods were 32-over par at 884 to finish 19 shots behind leader South Carolina-Aiken. The Ichabods fired a 12-over 296 in the third round Thursday.
Junior Jeremiah Nelson (McPherson, Kan.) fell to fourth place at 2-over 215 after firing a 74 in the third round. Senior Chris McGown (Mound City, Kan.) moved into ninth place at 4-over 217 after shooting a 1-under 70. He was one of 10 golfers to shoot under par on Thursday.
Freshman Ryan Deutsch (Topeka, Kan.) finished the day tied for 47th at 11-over par 224 after firing a 73. Junior Matt Warnock (Liberty, Mo.) was in 81st place individually at 232 after firing an 81, while senior Paul Resner (Emporia, Kan.) was tied for 88th at 234 after shooting a 79.
Washburn, which is trying to improve on its school-best 12th place finish in last year's national tournament, will tee off tomorrow at 7 a.m. (EST) with a shotgun start.
