Washburn finishes 10th at NCAA Tournament

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Washburn golf team finished in 10th place at the NCAA Division II National Golf Tournament Friday at The Club at Savannah Harbor. The Ichabods were 47-over par at 1183 to finish 25 shots back of national champion South Carolina-Aiken. The Pacers defended their 2004 NCAA Division II title.
The Ichabods fired a 15-over 299 in the final round Friday. Their 10th place finish topped the previous team best of 12th place last season. Washburn won its third straight MIAA and regional title and reached the NCAA Tournament for the third straight time in 2004-05.
Junior Jeremiah Nelson (McPherson, Kan.) fell to 16th place at 7-over 291 after firing a 76 in the final round. Senior Chris McGown (Mound City, Kan.) finished tied for 20th at 9-over 293 after shooting a 76, while Ryan Deutsch (Topeka, Kan.) vaulted to a tie for 34th place at 11-over 295 after firing a team-best 71.
Junior Matt Warnock (Liberty, Mo.) was in 78th place individually at 308, while senior Paul Resner (Emporia, Kan.) was tied for 80th at 310. Warnock and Resner carded 76s on the final day.
