Ichabods take 16-stroke lead at regional

BOLIVAR, Mo. — The Washburn Ichabod golf team fired a 3-over 291 to take a 16-stroke lead over Missouri Southern in the NCAA Division II Central Regional at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club Monday afternoon.

Senior Derek Dultmeier (Topeka), freshman Matt Warnock (Liberty, Mo.) and sophomore Paul Resner (Emporia) each carded 72 to take the individual lead in the tournament. Junior Garrett Donovan (Rossville) was seventh at 75, while senior Cam Hubbard (Topeka) was 24th after the first day individually.

The Ichabods, who won their first MIAA team title in school history last Tuesday, are trying to advance to the NCAA Division II national tournament for the first time in school history. The winning team and top individual not from the winning team advances to the national tournament May 20-23 in Sunriver, Ore. The Ichabods entered the tournament as the region's top seed.
