Ichabods increase lead to 31 strokes at golf regional

BOLIVAR, Mo. — The Washburn Ichabod golf team fired a 8-over 296 for a 587 total after two rounds to take a 31-stroke lead over Central Missouri State in the NCAA Division II Central Regional at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Matt Warnock (Liberty, Mo.) fired the day's lowest round with a 3-under 69 to take a 7-stroke lead individually with a 141. Sophomore Paul Resner (Emporia) carded a 76, while senior Derek Dultmeier (Topeka) fired a 77 to move into second and third respectively at 147 and 148. Junior Garrett Donovan (Rossville) was sixth at 151 today after shooting 76, while senior Cam Hubbard (Topeka) was 16th at 155 after firing a 75 individually.

The Ichabods, who won their first MIAA team title in school history last Tuesday, are trying to advance to the NCAA Division II national tournament for the first time in school history. The winning team and top individual not from the winning team advances to the national tournament May 20-23 in Sunriver, Ore. The Ichabods entered the tournament as the region's top seed.

The 54-hole tournament concludes tomorrow at Silo Ridge Golf Course with the final 18 holes.
