Ichabods
name Frost golf coach
Aug. 24, 1999
Former Washburn Ichabod golfer Phil Frost has
been named head coach of the program taking over for Ron McHenry, who
took the womens basketball coaching position.
We are thrilled to have coach Frost on
board, Loren Ferré, Washburn Athletics Director said. He
knows the program and the University and will make an excellent addition
to our staff.
Frost, a Topeka native, played at Washburn during
the 1997-98 season. He played at Dodge City Community College from 1994-96
and earned an Associates of Arts Degree. From Dodge City Community College,
he transferred to the University of New Orleans.
After a season at New Orleans, Frost transferred
to Washburn for the 1997-98 season and was named the team MVP after
shooting an overall stroke average of 74.1 with a low round score of
66 for the season. Frost won the Southwestern Invitational, the Washburn
Golf Classic, finished second at the Missouri Southern Classic, the
Drury Classic, Missouri-St. Louis Invitational, Central Missouri Heart
of America Invitational, Missouri Western Invitational, Lincoln Invitational.
He led Washburn to its last NCAA West Regional
Appearance where the Ichabods finished 11th place and he tied for 19th
as an individual.
Frost graduated in 1999 from Washburn with his
business degree.
After graduation, Frost has played on the professional
Prairie Golf Tour across the Midwest.
I am excited to be golf coach and come
back to Washburn. Frost said. We have a good core coming
back and if we put some good practice and work ethics into action, we
will continue to compete at the top of the conference. The team is coming
off a good season last year (finished third at MIAA Championships) and
we just want to build on that success.
