OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The MIAA announced Tuesday that Washburn golfer Chris McGown was named Wilson/MIAA Golfer of the Week.

McGown, a senior from Mound City, Kan., fired a 2-under par 70 in the final round of the Pittsburg State Invitational last Tuesday (Oct. 12) to capture medalist honors and lead the Ichabods to the team title.

He carded a 144 for 36 holes, two shots ahead of teammate Jeremiah Nelson. Washburn carded a four-man, 36-hole total of 588 (12-over par) to earn an eight-stroke win over Drury (Mo.).

In the Drury Classic Oct 4-5, McGown scored a 36-hole total of 149, tying for 10th and helping the Ichabods to a team score of 597 -- three shots ahead of co-runners-up Central Oklahoma and Arkansas Tech. He was WU’s No. 2 finisher in the meet, three behind Matt Warnock.

McGown is a graduate of Jayhawk-Linn High School, and transferred to WU from Johnson County (Kan.) Community College.
