May 21, 2003
SUNRIVER, Ore. - The Washburn Ichabod golf team fired a 16-over 304
to fall to 16th place at 611 after the second round of the NCAA Division
II National Golf Championships at Crosswater Golf Club Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Derek Dultmeier (Topeka) and Paul Resner
(Emporia) each carded 73s to finish at 147 and 151 for the tournament
respectively. Resner opened his round with three straight birdies off
the back nine. Dultmeier is in 28th place individually.
"I think our guys put a little too much
pressure on themselves to make a big run and we started pressing and
made some unforced errors today," Washburn coach Doug Hamilton
said. "We just need to relax like this is any other golf tournament
and shooting how we are capable of."
The Ichabods, who won the MIAA team title and
the Central Regional title, are participating in the NCAA Division II
national tournament for the first time in school history. The 72-hole
tournament continues with the third round, which begins 8:30 a.m. (Pacific
Time) Thursday.
