get second seed in Central Region Tournament

The Washburn Ichabod golf team clinched a berth into the Central Super Region Men’s Golf Tournament May 3-5 at Lassing Point Golf Club in Union, Ky. The Ichabods won the 2003 Central Regional championship by 27 shots at Silo Ridge Golf Course in Bolivar, Mo.
The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Northern Kentucky University, will consist of 18 holes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Super Regional is comprised of teams and individuals from the Great Lakes and Central Regions.
Washburn is competing with seven other Central Region teams for a berth to the national tournament May 12-15 in DeLand Florida. The Great Lakes Region is also competing at Lassing Point Golf Club and will also send one of its eight teams to the national tournament.
The Ichabods won the MIAA Golf Tournament with an 884 (+20) at Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan. on Tuesday. Chris McGown finished second in the MIAA tournament individually with a 216 (E), while Matt Warnock was third at 219 (+3).
McGown, Warnock, Garrett Donovan and Matt Johnston each earned All-MIAA honors to help lead Washburn to its second straight MIAA crown. Doug Hamilton was also named MIAA Coach of the Year for the second straight time.
