TOPEKA, Kan. - Washburn men’s basketball coach Bob Chipman announced the signing of Grant Hargett, a 6-1 guard from Kirkwood Community College (Iowa). The Golden Valley, Minn., native will join the Ichabods after playing two years for the Eagles.

Hargett helped his team to two national runner-up finishes at the NJCAA tournament while at Kirkwood. Last year he averaged 9.4 points per game and 3.3 assists while helping KCC to a 26-4 record. He led his team in steals with 1.7 per game and he shot 39 percent from 3-point range, second best on the team. He finished the year as a member of the all-region second team.

“Grant is a tremendous winner with two national runner-up finishes in junior college,” Chipman said. “We’re looking for him to bring those winning qualities here and help us right away.”

Hargett played for Armstrong High School in Plymouth, Minn.

The Ichabods will be looking to improve on their 10-16 record from last year. They suffered their first losing season in Chipman's 27 years.
