Ichabods comeback bid falls short with Mules

TOPEKA - The Washburn Ichabods fell in its conference opener 76-68 to the No. 19 ranked Central Missouri Mules in Lee Arena. With the loss, the Ichabods drop to 5-3 on the season and CMSU lifts its record to 8-1.
The Ichabods started the game cold as CMSU built a lead of 9-1 at the 15:41 mark of the first half and it was not until 4:34 into the game the Ichabods would hit their first field goal as Andrew Meile hit a three to cut the CMSU lead to 9-4. The Mules built a lead as many as 13 in the first half as neither team would score the final 2:46 of the half with the Mules taking a 35-25 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Ichabods warmed up shooting 56 percent from the field hitting 7 of their first 10 shots, trimming the CMSU lead to two at 42-40 with 15:40 to go, but they would not get any closer as the Mules would lead by as many as 16 points after using a 15-0 run to pull away over the next seven-plus minutes. The Ichabods did use a 10-2 run of their own, but it was not enough as the Mules held on for their fourth straight win over the Ichabods.
Rashad Adams scored 15 points to lead all scorers in the game and Brady Sisk recorded a career-high 14 rebounds with 14 points in the loss. CMSU was paced by Alonzo Brooks who scored 13 points.
The Ichabods did have a new-to-basketball face in the line up as Ichabod cornerback Fletcher Terrell saw his first action for the Washburn basketball team as he scored six points with two steals in six minutes of play. Terrell was a first team all-MIAA defense back for the MIAA champion football team.
