Ichabods can't hold first half lead in loss at No. 3 Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – A 12-2 run midway through the second half was too much for the Ichabods to overcome in a 67-50 loss at No. 3 Central Missouri. Washburn will return to action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Arena on a game that will be televised live on KTWU.
The Ichabods (5-6, 1-1 MIAA) led by one at the break 22-21, but a 11-3 start to the second half pushed the Mule lead to 32-24. The Ichabods' rally on back-to-back lay ups by Frank Phifer and Dyan Channel cut the lead back to 32-29 after the first media timeout of the half.
After the break, back-to-back 3-pointers by the Mules’ Theo Jones pushed the advantage back to nine at 38-29. On the next possession, the Ichabods’ Reed Hein hit a 3 to cut the lead to six at 38-32, but they would not get closer than eight the rest of way as the Mules would go on a 12-2 run pushing the lead to 16 at 50-34.
The 50 points scored by Washburn was its lowest total since joining the NCAA Division II in 1989-90.
The Ichabods led 22-21 at the break after converting 10 turnovers to 12 points and held the Mules to 6-of-25 shooting from the field, and 1-of-9 from 3-point range. The Mules started the game 3-of-19 from the field through the first 16:48 of play. However the Mules were 8-of-11 from the free throw line. The Ichabods finished the half 10-of-29 from the field and 1-of-2 from the charity stripe.
Phifer was the only Ichabod to reach double figures with 11 points before fouling out.
The Ichabods were 19-of-52 for the game and 9-of-23 in the second half shooting 37 percent for the game. They were dominated on the boards as the Mules held a 45-33 advantage on the glass including 24 offensive rebounds.
Notes:
• The 50 points scored by Washburn was its lowest total since joining the NCAA Division II in 1989-90. The last time the Ichabods scored less than 50 points was a 75-47 loss at UCM in 1982-83. The previous low as a DII school was the 51 scored in a loss last year to Central Arkansas.
• The win for the Mules was the sixth straight in the series, Washburn had won the previous
12 in the series.
• The Ichabods lead the all-time series 52-37 and they are 18-11 against the Mules in MIAA games.
• Transfer Mamadou Sy scored a Washburn-high nine points and recorded six rebounds as
