Ichabods cold as January weather in second half in loss at Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Ichabods scored just 17 second-half points Saturday as they lost 60-45 at Truman. Washburn fell to 6-9 and 2-4 in the MIAA while the Bulldogs jumped to 10-5 and 4-2 in the conference. The Ichabods will return to action Wednesday night when they host Southwest Baptist at 7:30 p.m. at Lee Arena.
Senior forward Frank Phifer led Washburn with 15 points while junior forward Kyle Snyder had a game-high 13 rebounds. No other Ichabod reached double figures as Washburn was held to its lowest point total as an NCAA Division II member.
The Ichabods scored the opening points and led four times in the first half. The Bulldogs went ahead with 3:47 remaining in the half on a shot from Andy Calmes and they led 31-28 at halftime.
They held the lead the entire second half as Washburn shot just 19 percent. For the game the Ichabods shot a season-low 28 percent (15-of-54) and shot just 56 percent from the free throw line after bringing in a 72 percent season effort from the line. Truman was 45 percent from the field and 67 percent from the stripe. The Ichabods outrebounded their opponent for the 10th time (38-36), but dropped to 5-5 when doing so.
Nick Certa led TSU with 20 points and two others scored in double figures.
