Afternoon showdown at ESU Saturday a crucial match as Ichabods look to extent season
For the second straight game Washburn will take on one of the top teams in the conference as it tries to dig out of the bottom of the standings and gain a spot in the MIAA Postseason Tournament. The Ichabods head to Emporia State Saturday afternoon for a 1:30 game against the No. 19 Hornets.

Washburn (8-16, 4-11 MIAA) fell in double overtime at 18th-ranked Northwest Missouri State Wednesday while ESU (19-4, 10-4 MIAA) dropped its second straight game at home to Pittsburg State.

When the week began Washburn was in a four-way tie for last in the conference. Two of those teams, Fort Hays State and Missouri Western State won this week while WU and Missouri Southern State lost. Washburn has three games remaining, two on the road, to try and gain a spot in the standings. Following the ESU game the Ichabods head to Fort Hays State Wednesday and then host Central Missouri February 24 in the finale.
