Ichabods knocked off by Missouri Southern in MIAA opener

In a battle of the top two MIAA coaches picks, the Ichabods came out on the short end of the stick with an 83-73 loss to Missouri Southern.

The Ichabods raced to a 13-5 lead but after a timeout by the Lions and some Ichabod substitutions, the Lions went on a 29-7 run to take a 34-20 lead. The Ichabods would chip away to cut it to six, but another Lion run at the end of the first half would see the host team take a 45-35 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lions would build the lead to as many as 14. The Ichabods would not get closer than five points with 57 seconds left to play at 73-68. But the Lions, who connected on 31 of 37 free throws, would hit six of their final eight to ice the game.

Ewan Auguste paced the Ichabods with 19 points on 8 of 9 shooting from the field. Shannon Kruger had 14, as did Ryan Murphy. Terry Shumpert and Carlos Escalera lead the Lions' attack wth 27 and 23 points respectively.

The Ichabods will be in action again on Saturday at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. with a 3:30 tip off.
