Ichabods sign Bwalya to letter of intent

Washburn tennis coach Jennifer Hastert announced the signing
of Barton County Community College transfer Sydney Bwalya to a national
letter of intent Monday morning.
Bwalya, a native of Mufulira, Zambia will be a junior at
Washburn in the fall after playing two years for the Cougars. This season
he was ranked No. 13 in the NJCAA singles national rankings, helping the
Cougars to a No. 4 national ranking in the NJCAA team poll.Bwalya and
Ndefwayi Machinda are ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA national doubles poll.
In 2001 Bwalya earned All-American honors by finishing second
at No. 3 singles in the NJCAA National Tournament and winning the No.
3 double national title. The Cougars finished second in the national tournament.
Bwalya was the captain of Zambia's Davis Cup team in 2002 that played
in Poland and has played four years of Davis Cup tennis.
He joins Brett Coleman, Ryan Peterson and Tyler Kinder in
next fallŐs recruiting class for the Ichabods.
