Three Lady Blues named honorable mention All-MIAA

TOPEKA -- The Washburn Lady Blues had three players named to the All-MIAA honorable mention squad that was released by the MIAA office. Freshman midfielder Meagan Horvath, freshman defender Monica Ruiz and freshman forward Jenna Lawless were all named to the team.

Lawless, from Topeka, was second on the team in goals with six and third on the team with 13 points scored. She also had an assist. Lawless scored two goals in the Lady Blues 4-1 win over Northwest Missouri helping snap a seven-game winless streak.

Horvath, from Olathe, scored the first goal in Lady Blues' history in a 5-1 win over Ottawa in the first game in school history. She scored five goals this season and led the team with four assists tallying 14 points.

Ruiz, from Lawrence, had one shot on goal from her defender position and was one of only three Lady Blues to start all 18 matches.

The Lady Blues finished their first season 4-13-1 and 2-11-1 in the MIAA.
