Lady Blues debut with 5-1 win over Ottawa

TOPEKA -- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer program jumped off the ground in a big way with a 5-1 win over Ottawa in the first game in school history. Freshman Megan Horvath scored the first goal in Washburn history at the 13:38 mark of the first half on an assist from fellow freshman Melissa Zadina.

The Lady Blues jumped out to a 2-0 lead as freshman Jenna Lawless scored from inside the penalty box at the 15:01 mark - 1:22 after the first goal my Horvath.

Ottawa would score their only goal of the game at the 24:25 mark as Carlie Kepley hit Amber McGinnis from 5-yards out. Freshman Anna Fahey scored at the 34:10 mark of the first half from 15 yards out down the goalline into the opposite corner of the goal unassisted.

The Lady Blues would follow it up with two more goals, one by Zadina at the 53:52 mark and the 78:25 mark by freshman Celese Seibert - both were on assists by Stephanie Bruegger.

The Lady Blues will now play three games in three days as they travel this weekend for a MIAA debut with Missour-Rolla on Friday night and Missouri Southern on Saturday. Washburn will return home to take on East Central (Okla.) at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
