Two Lady Blues named second team all-MIAA

TOPEKA -- The Lady Blues had two players named to the All-MIAA Second Team that was announced today. Sophomore Meagan Horvath was named as a defender and sophomore Lauren Schwindt was named as a forward. The Lady Blues also had two named to the honorable mention squad as well in sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Hatlestad and sophomore forward Jenna Lawless.

Horvath (Olathe, Kan./Olathe North HS) was an honorable mention selection as a freshman at the midfielder's position. This season she started all 19 matches and was voted captain at the beginning of the year. She scored two goals with two assists totaling six points. She was 1-for-1 on penalty kicks as well.

Schwindt (McPherson, Kan./Louisiana-Lafayette) finished her first year as a Lady Blue after transferring from Louisiana-Lafayette. She was third on the team with five goals and second on the team with four assists. She had two game-winning goals.

Lawless (Topeka, Kan./Washburn Rural) was named honorable mention all-conference for the second straight season. She led the Lady Blues with seven goals and five assists for a team-high 19 points. Her seven goals tied the Washburn single-season record. Both her total of five assists and 19 points each set new single-season records for the Lady Blues.

Hatlestad (Olathe, Kan./Charleston Southern) was named honorable mention after playing every single second of the 2004 Washburn season. She tallied 1766:04 in goal for the Lady Blues. Her 160 saves set a new MIAA record for a single season. She recorded five wins in goal and her 2.04 goal against average set a new school record. She also recorded the first two shutouts in school history.

The Lady Blues finished the season with a 5-11-3 overall record and a 3-9-2 mark in conference play, finishing fifth in the MIAA, improving over their first-season showing of eighth in the league.

The Lady Blues finished their first season 4-13-1 and 2-11-1 in the MIAA.
