TOPEKA - The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team snapped a four-game losing slide with a 2-1 win over Northwest Missouri State. With the win, the Lady Blues improve to 3-5-0 overall and 1-4-0 in conference play.

The Lady Blues did not waste any time as Jolene Silovsky scored her fourth goal of the season as she followed up a Jenna Lawless shot that rebounded off the post in the fifth minute of the match.

Following the "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" motto, Lawless scored her third goal of the season from a crossing pass from Silovsky.

The Lady Blues were outshot in the first half 16 to six, but still held on to the lead following eight saves by Washburn's Jenna Hatlestad.

In the second half, the Bearcats were on the offensive again as they attempted nine shots, compared to only one for the Lady Blues as Tracy Sacco scored from 30 yards out with 1:50 to go in the match.

The Bearcats had one last gasp at a goal as Margaret Trummer's header with 17 seconds left was picked off by Hatlestad. Hatlestad finished the game with a school-record 14 saves.

The Lady Blues will now start six-game road trip starting with Missouri-Rolla on Friday night at 7 p.m. before returning home on Oct. 16 against Central Missouri.
