Lady Blues announce 2004 signing class

Washburn Lady Blues head soccer coach Tim Collins has announced four signees and two transfers who will join the program for its second year in existence. The Lady Blues finished their inaugural season with a 4-13-1 overall record and 2-11-1 record in MIAA play.
“We’re looking forward for the new players to come in and contribute to the building of our program,” Collins said. “Each of these players come from winning programs and we are ready to take the next steps in raising the level of play of Washburn soccer.”

Nicole Parent, 5-10, Goalkeeper, Lansing, Kan./Lansing High School
Nicole was a unanimous all-conference goalkeeper in 2002 recording a 0.7 goals against average. She was also a member of the honor roll and a Northeast Kansas Soccer League Scholar Athlete.

Megan Garlow, 5-2, Midfielder, Salina, Kan./Salina Central High School
Megan has been a two-time first team all-state selection and a second team all-state pick. She has received all conference honors three times as well as being named all-region three times and the Mustangs three-time captain. She was also selected to tryout for the United States Soccer Academy under-18 team in the summer of 2003.

Jolene Lutz, 5-7, Midfielder/Forward, Topeka, Kan./Seaman High School
Jolene was a member of the Vikings regional champs and state qualifying teams. She was an honorable mention all-city pick in basketball as a junior and honorable mention all-city and all-conference as a senior.

McKinley Rainer, 5-6, Midfielder/Forward, Shawnee Mission West High School
McKinley was the Vikings’ captain as a junior and a senior. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, student council, a member of the cross country team and a academic letterwinner. At the senior awards night, she was also awarded the Outstanding Journalism Student, Shawnee Mission West Academic Excellence Award, President’s Academic Excellence certificate and the femail recipient of Shawnee Mission West’ Kansas State High School Athletic Association Citizenship Award.

Jenna Hatlestad, 5-6, Goalkeeper, Olathe, Kan./Olahte South High School/Charleston Southern University
Jenna was four-year participant at Olathe South HS and set school record for shutouts and goals allowed average (.442 goals per match). She was a first team All-City and All-League, and second team All-State pick. Her team went 19-1 her senior season, winning league, regional and state championships, and was rated No. 4 nationally. Sh also played basketball for three years and was a three-time honor roll member. At Charleston Southern, she appeared in 10 games starting nine recording 40 saves in 630 minutes of action. She will be a sophomore in eligibility.

Jamie Francis, 5-5, Midfielder, Topeka, Kan./Washburn Rural High School/Ottawa University
Jamie finished third in the KCAC for the Brave sscoring 16 goals in 21 games for a 0.76 per game average. She also finished fifth in the KCAC with 1.67 points per game adding three assists on the season. She was an honorable mentnion all-KCAC selection as a freshman.
