JOPLIN, Mo. - For the second straight game the 16th-ranked Lady Blues went to overtime, this time dropping a 1-0 decision at Missouri Southern State to snap their 15-game unbeaten streak. The season’s first loss put the league-leading Lady Blues at 10-1-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the MIAA. They will continue their seven-game road trip with a 6 p.m. game Friday at Emporia State.

Each team took nine shots in the opening 90 minutes and each team put three on goal. With just five seconds remaining in the first 10-minute overtime period the Lions’ Nikki Llewellyn found the back of the net off a cross from Erin Gfeller at 99:55.

Lady Blue goalkeeper Jenna Hatlestad made three saves and Jolene Silovsky put two shots on goal. Eight different Washburn players took shots but neither of them were able to punch one in. MSSU keeper Kaney Tyler made three saves for the shutout, the first against the Lady Blues since the season-ender last year at MSSU.

The Lady Blues still lead the MIAA standings with 16 points. Second place Southwest Baptist came into Saturday with 11.
