TOPEKA - The No. 14 Washburn Lady Blues played to a double overtime 0-0 tie with Southwest Baptist setting up a winner take all MIAA Championship game on Sunday at Yager Stadium with Missouri Southern - the only team to beat the Lady Blues this season.
Against the Bearcats, Washburn (14-1-4, 9-1-3 MIAA) outshot their opponents 20 to 7, including a 16 to 4 advantage in regulation as none of their attempts were able to cross the goal line. The Lady Blues had two opportunities blocked by Bearcats in empty net situations.
Washburn held the advantage in corner kicks as well leading 11 to 5.
Lady Blues senior goalie Jenna Hatlestad picked up three saves in net for Washburn recording her ninth shutout of the season. Aline Lopes had 10 saves for SBU.
Sunday's match with No. 21 ranked Missouri Southern has both teams entering the contest with identical 9-1-3 records and 30 points in the conference standings. Missouri Southern topped the Lady Blues in overtime on Sept. 30 in Joplin 1-0 in overtime. The win for the Lions snapped the Lady Blues' 15-match unbeaten streak.
