Lady Blues take down 2nd ranked opponent in as many days

TOPEKA, Kan. - For the second time in as many days, the Washburn Lady Blues knocked off a top-25 opponent as they dispatched No. 18 ranked Truman State 2-1 in Yager Stadium. On Saturday, Washburn topped No. 13 Central Missouri 2-1. Both wins were the first for Washburn over ranked opponents in the programs' three-plus year history.
After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs scored the opening goal of the match on a penalty kick by Lauren Hawks. It was Hawks' sixth goal of the season. However Washburn knotted the score 1:22 later as Jolene Silovsky scored her seventh goal of the season from 10 yards out to tie things up a one goal a piece.
Washburn scored the winner in the 79 th minute as Ashley Taylor recorded her third goal of the season on a Lauren Schwindt assist from five yards out for the go-ahead goal.
Jenna Hatlestad picked up the win in goal for Washburn as she recorded two saves allowing the lone penalty kick goal.
Washburn out shot the Bulldogs 9 to 5, including an 8 to 2 advantage in the second half. The win was Washburn's 12 th match in a row to go unbeaten.
Washburn will be in action again this Saturday at 1 p.m. when they take on Northwest Missouri and Yager Stadium and then wrap up the six-match homestand with Missouri Western on Sunday at 1 p.m.
