Lady Blues blank Griffons 4-0, improve to 10-0-1

TOPEKA – The No. 16 ranked Washburn Lady Blues improved to 10-0-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the MIAA with a 4-0 win over Missouri Western Sunday afternoon at Yager Stadium.
The Lady Blues’ Keeley Lambeth scored her second goal in as many matches as she put Washburn up 1-0 on assists by Jenna Lawless and Traci Nigg at the 7:45 mark of the first half. Lambeth also had the game-winning goal yesterday in a 1-0 win over Northwest Missouri.
Nigg added her second goal of the season on an assist from Ashley Taylor as scored scored off a corner kick in the 29th minute as the Lady Blues took a 2-0 lead into the break. Washburn out shot the Griffons 8-0 in the first half.
In the second half, Washburn’s Jessica Mainz scored her eighth goal of the season on a double assist from Lawless and Jolene Silovsky in the 61st minute of the match.
WU’s Taylor finished the scoring in the final minute of play as she scored on a free kick from 25 yards out.
Jenna Hatlestad picked up her second straight shutout with one save against the Griffons as Washburn out shot Missouri Western (1-6-2, 0-4-0 MIAA) 17 to 1 in the match.
With Silovsky’s assist in the second half, she raised her career point total to 56 which places her six points out of 10th place on the all-time MIAA point chart.
Sunday’s match wraped up a six-game homestand for the Lady Blues as they will play their next seven on the road not returning to Topeka until Oct. 27th when they take on Southwest Baptist at 3 p.m. at the Washburn Soccer Complex. The Lady Blues will wrap up the regular season at 1 p.m. against Missouri Southern and honor the nine Lady Blues seniors in pregame ceremonies.
